When it comes to safety, no company wants to see staff hurt or property damaged.

Yet, the majority of senior management see spending money on safety as a "grudge buy" that results in little or no return on investment. In fact, the opposite is true.

This can be frustrating for safety professionals who know that they need more budget to improve safety, but have difficulties getting the board or senior management to approve a highly needed budget increase.

Safety Expert Video Interviews

At the Melbourne Safety in Action Show, we filmed video interviews with four safety experts that were streamed live over the Internet.

Our four safety experts gave valuable and insightful information on how to improve workplace safety communication, induction training and interesting trends in safety.

Our expert panel included Kevin Jones (SafetyatWorkblog), Dr Marilyn Vecchio-Sadus from CSIRO, Marilyn Hubner from NSCA and John Lacey (Vice President, IOSH).

7 Steps to writing your Safety Message

If you're in charge of writing the next safety message or safety slogan for your company's safety initiatives, you know that you've got a challenge ahead of you. After all, most safety slogans become invisible and ineffective pretty quickly.

Only create a safety message that is part of a workplace safety campaign where people receive training to change their behaviour. Otherwise. putting a poster on the wall with a new slogan is as helpful as putting a sticker on your car that says "Baby on board". No-one will pay much attention (or really care!).
